Fast and Furious movies - Worst to Best

let’s do this. Fast and furious 7 is coming and I have been a quite fan of the series since the first one. I am a lover of movies and I fucking love the Fast and furious the franchise no matter how bad the acting and the story the Fast movies hold a special place in my heart and i love them for what they are.

I am going to rank the Fast movies from best to worst keeping in mind this is my fucking opinion. I am going to give reasons for why i placed these movies here on the list, comment if you agree or disagree and let me hear where you would rank the movies.

6. Fast 5 – Ohh fucking soo controversial, fuck it’s no secret that this is majority of peoples favourite movie and as a whole I did fucking love this movie, we got to see more Han which Is never bad, It gave the movie a true family vibe and filled it with purpose. Also heist films are always fucking cool with the Oceans movies being one of the greatest movies ever (Yes even the confusing second one but that’s for another time). The problem with the movie is it felt way to amped up from its previous movies, the amp up was to put this on the epic action movie to meet higher demand and it achieved its goal but for original fans it did feel tacked on. It took away all the movies street race roots which made the franchise great in the first place, only one race took place and it was a bullshit one in identical cars, the cat and mouse with the safe at the end sort of made up for it though. It was just a little weird seeing Dom go fight toe to toe and win against a military man who has been trained when Dom has had no training apart from what the the first movie hinted to with a few skirmishes. I just felt it was too hard core out of nowhere but as a whole it was a good movie, even if it was a filler film.

5. 2 Fast 2 Furious – Now while it did take the fast and furious into a new element with a cool undercover crime-cop vibe, 2 fast 2 furious pretended like the first movie just never took place, the cool little prelude was a nice wee call back and it is understandable why they had to do things differently with a new director and Vin not coming back but Brian acts like he was in the police force for such a long time and comes in as the hot shot racer to beat when he was a rookie in the first one. I did think this movie had a much better plot then the first one though and that counts for something but just about every character in this movie feels like a cartoon character. The villain, his henchmen, the insane driving, the bright and tuned up cars, the two lead characters and even Tej and his Suki feel cartoonish. The characters stayed under developed as well apart from Brian and Roman, you feel a sort of great chemistry with them but every other character I could not care less. What lets the movie down once again is Eva Mendez just shows up for this one movie and then comes back in 5 in a post credits scene (Fan service) but she was totally one dimensional and thrown in as a love interest that never carried through, Brian clearly still feels for Dom’s sister but they dismiss it in this movie. One over hanging problem with all the Fast movies and this one especially was the unplanned endings that these movies have. The director treats it as a one and done type deal when they should be focusing on where these could go, but hey how were they to know at the time this would be Universals biggest franchise. It ends with Brian and Rome going to open up their own garage and this confused the fuck out of people when they made Fast 4 because Brian is back as a cop and people then started to think 2 fast 2 furious was a sequel. Why I put 2 fast over Fast 5 is it has two clear main characters, a nice and easy to follow plot and some great driving scenes, it went in a creative direction and gave us two of the most loved characters to the franchise (Tej and Rome). Also easily the most quotable of all the movies Rome was golden in this movie. He is now taking a back seat in the newer movies as comedy relief. He is under used and needs to have more for his character.

4. Fast 6 – Yes the latest movie comes in at number four, when this first come out and I saw it at the theatre I was thinking this would be an alright movie, you had team versus team and that idea sounded great to me, I was worried as well because would this follow in Fast 5’s formula and push us deeper into the unknown or will it pull us back to the over arcing story. When the movie was over I was fucking beside myself, I loved it and that was mainly to do with the end where it finally fucking ties us in with the overarching story. Fast 6 knew what it was doing, it played off all of Fast 5’s strengths also was not some piece of filler. Fast 6 had an interesting counter in Shaw’s team as the good guys come up against things they never would have expected which made for some killer action scenes. It’s a bit bullshit how my complaint with Fast 5 was that it sprung into absurdity too early but with 6 it just felt right, I let myself be drawn into the unrealistic scenarios and it just functioned better. With Leddy being brought back it was one of the best things the franchise could do and they gave her a new depth to her character instead of being the tough chick in the background that Dom picks up during a montage scene she became an important part of the plot. The movie also handled comedic value a lot better and tried to use all the characters unlike in Fast 5 where all those people were not actually that necessary and everyone fat into the plot. The one big theme that the fast movie tries to put on is family is important and worth dying for and this movie made me believe it. The emotion in this felt all too real with Hans’s girl dying and Leddy joining the crew again. Also this movie was buttfuck full of call-backs and the ending where they get the old Torreto house back made me so happy as a fan of the series, it felt right and hyped me up for Fast 7.

3. Fast 4 – This one always seems to move around my list and it’s the most random film of the franchise in my opinion. This movie, now with Leddy back feels like you could take it away and you would still understand what is going on and why everyone is where they are. This movie does introduce Gal Gadot who is fucking awesome but the real reason it’s so high in the list is because it captured what Fast and Furious should look like. First off like I said before a lot of people were confused why Brian was a cop again, and not just a regular boy in blue. He is full secret agent which always confused me as this big time skip matured him even though he was going to start a garage with Rome. Anyway, Tokyo drift is put on the back burner as some sweet driving from Dom and the gang has the audience seeing them what they do best, fucking up a truck heist. I love the scene where he goes under the giant tank and just makes it by his excellent timing. This movie was right in the way it played so much off the strength of its races and the cars started to feel a little more realistic again with the tuned up imports and classic muscle. I think in general it was good because it was Dom and Brian working together once again side by side and no huge cast to take away the focus. Dealing with the cartels and the Leddy murder was a cool story element and this movie just reminded everyone that Justin Lin can take care of this franchise. It mixed things up but always stuck to the driving. It’s so high on the list, not just because it’s a good movie in the franchise but because it holds value as a standalone movie you can watch whenever. The villain’s like all the Fast movies were under developed but you wanted Dom to get revenge and that drove the movie enough to make me care. It was also nice seeing where these characters have ended up so many years later.

2. The Fast and the furious – Here it is, the movie that started this whole fucking franchise, lets get controversial. I find it funny that the movie that kicked this whole bad ass franchise into gear gets such a bad rep. Most people have seen the 5th movie and then if liked it have gone back to watch the originals only to feel cheated, the target demographic for Fast 5 is not the entire target demographic for the 1st one. Sure it had some bad acting and some bad effects with virtually no plot line but that’s because it is a movie to have fun with. It is high up on this list because of the value it has, it has become a modern day cult movie and with the passing of Paul Walker it becomes more of homage to him. If Drakes lyrics started from the bottom now where here was to represent anything, Fast 1 would be just that. The idea of having an undercover young hot shot try enter this world of street racing and be mentored by the big player is truly inspiring. The car scenes are fucking cool and the cars themselves are sweet as fuck. It is classic bust your ass to pay for a car type movie, not like all the crazy expensive cars they drive now with the insane shit they do, the cars had character and were an important piece of the story that is hard to replicate in these newer movies where the cars are still relevant but the racing and true admiration for the cars is gone. I like the gritty and low budget feel the movie had and let’s be honest, no other movie tackled driving like this, street racing peaked in early 2000s and this let the boy racers blow their loads that people actually noticed what they were doing. As a whole a lot of people frown on this movie but you have to admit it has heart and ambition, I was sad when Jessie got shot (I hope Kurt Russell plays his dad) and I want Leon to come back. It’s quotable, it’s fun and it’s just great to put on whenever. You know what you are in for and I would not choose the massive bank heist movie over this brave underdog flick.

1. The fast and the furious: Tokyo Drift – Here it is folks, the conclusion, the one you have all been waiting for. Well actually you were probably feeling this one would have come in the last place as it is deemed the movie that does not belong. Now I said before that Fast 4 feels like you could pick it up and take it away and you would never question it but this movie almost belonged in a completely different universe right up to the last 5-10 minutes when Dom comes in. This movie gets easily shit on and I feel it’s a little unfair, I fucking loved the shit out of this movie and on a much more personal level than any of the other movies in the franchise. Lucas black was fucking epic as Sean and he was the only character I have been able to relate with so far, a young kid dealing with family problems and a whole new culture, fuck yea this gave depth to him as a character, you feel his isolation. Han is one of the best characters in the franchise if not my favourite, he was so cool and calm and you felt he was wise and could beat anyone in a race, his character became more interesting with the newer movies but on his own his mystery captured the imagination of fans everywhere. This movie sparked the turning point for the movies to be carried out by Justin Lin and the franchise became his right away. The drifting became a whole new way to enjoy street racing and the cars were fucking sexy, best car to this day in my opinion is Hans RX7, I loved it and it got me into cars for the period of time I loved them. I love this movie not as just a Fast movie, but a movie in general and I consider it one of my major guilty pleasures, I love watching this movie and its beauty is you can pop it on for yourself or for friends and even new people to the series as it is great alone. The female character is super underdeveloped and she had complete potential as she had a cool back story and DK along with his henchman Morimoto felt somewhat cartoonish but right up until Jason Statham became involved with these movies Takashi (DK) is the best villain so far and I’m being serious, I am hoping they use him in upcoming movies, I miss that guy, fuck I miss all these characters. Twink was that cool friend you always wanted and Sean himself is an awesome character. Lucas Black said he was only going to be in one scene in Fast 7 which is a total bummer, with Paul gone I feel Lucas would fill the void nice, no one can replace Paul and I’m glad that means Rome will be getting major spotlight but I just don’t want to see Sean become a backseat driver, he can hold a movie and teaming up with Dom would be fucking epic. Tokyo has a lot of potential as a place and I feel the production crew, writer and director are overlooking it. This movie is a true cult movie in my eyes and a lot of fans pick this as their favourite also, it was so different and cool with a clear story that I named it the best. It has the most re-watchability and quotable dialogue. The fish out of water and the mentor story tropes fit the film well and I miss Han. I hope this is revisited in the future and people just need to give this movie a chance to be great, stop looking at what the franchise is now and look back at what formed it, you might enjoy yourself.

So that’s it, a bit random and unusual for most people but this is how I rank these movies. My list has been known to shift from time to time but Tokyo Drift forever stays 1st. I can’t wait to see where Fast 7 will place in my movies, I am most looking forward to Sean’s scene and I am sad about Paul Walker, he leaves behind a strong legacy, a great franchise and it will be interesting to see them deal with his character. This could be the last movie if it turns south but the cast is giving it their all, for Paul.

Gravity movie review

So today I saw Gravity, a movie that had Sandra Bullock and George Clooney and when i first saw the trailer i thought it would be something like 127 hours only in space. Once i saw it boy i was wrong, sure it has the elements of survival but this movie was epic. Sandra Bullock does a great job at playing a girl isolated in space, you do get the feeling that no one is going to help you and you are on your own. George Clooney was great too and acted in how you would think real astronauts act in these situations, the plot was well written so you would not get board watching the same thing for the whole movie and the danger shifts from time to time from lack of oxygen to no communication. The special effects for the movie were excellent also and should be at least in the running for an award, at times i was gripping the seat because the movie was so suspenseful. It also has a well put together soundtrack that brings out the emotion, seriously i can see some people crying while watching this movie you start to care so much for the characters. This would change a lot of peoples views on space and also they portrayed space so well as there is no sound in space. Lots of space movies put in big explosions but the silence of this pumps the suspense up even more. I would say this is a great movie for people who want to watch a movie you cant just have it on as background while you do something else. But sit down, enjoy it and it wont let you down.

The Wolverine movie review

Today i saw The Wolverine and i was sceptical going in to the movie because the last stand alone Wolverine movie did not live up to the x men movies before it but once i watched this movie i found it entertaining and gripping. The story takes place after x men 3 with Logan living in the forest mountains still haunted by what happened with Jean Grey is trying to understand what to do with his life, he is asked to come to Tokyo to say goodbye to a man he saved from the Nagasaki bombing. He gets caught up in a family dispute as well as giving him something to live for and get his healing ability back. This movie had great action scenes, the one that stood out the most was the train scene where Logan is fighting gangsters on top a bullet train. The story is much better thought out and put together making it more understandable then the previous Wolverine movie. The actors all played there parts well and its always good to see Hugh Jackman can still pull Wolverine off. The only thing wrong with the film was at times it had shaky camera and it was hard to see what was going on but above all The Wolverine will be a good time for comic book fans and anyone who likes superhero movies in general.

The Worlds End movie review

The Worlds End is a Sci/Fi Comedy film directed by Edger Wright starring Nick Frost and Simon Pegg back together again for another adventure. This movie is about a group of all friends getting back together in there old town to finish a beer run from pub to pub they left un-complete years ago. During the run they find that there old town is now over run by aliens. This movie is packed with comedic moments just like the previous Frost and Pegg films also maintaining its mystery and is not short on action. The movie has such a great cast with chemistry that will make you feel like they did go to school together. This movie is a laugh for adults and teenagers or anyone who enjoyed Shaun of the Dead and/or Hot Fuzz. The mild twists and unexpected moments of this film stand out and will draw the audience in even more. I would highly recommend this movie for anyone who wants to kick back and watch a great action com.

Epic movie review.

So today i watched the movie called epic and it does live up to its name. Its about a teenage girl named  Mary Katherine (M.K for short) who moves way out in to the forest to live with her hypo scientist father who is obsessed with finding this forest full of little people, M.K gets shrunk down and given a task to travel through this forest and safely deliver and look after a pod with help from the leafmen. This crisp looking film has a great story that is not completely original but pulls it off never the less. The animation is flawless and they done a really great job bringing this fantasy world to life and not to mention the voice cast. Christoph Waltz as the main bad guy stood out to me as he has that intimidating voice, Amanda Seyfried did such a good job voicing M.K and really made this story great. Josh Hutcherson was good in his role and Colin Farrell did well as the hero knight. I have to say this cast also is not short on music stars ether with Beyonce, Pitbull and Steven Tyler all providing voices. Over all this movie will be great for the kids and even for the adults something the whole family can enjoy.
